One rule: every row, column and 3×3 box contains 1–9 once.
Single candidate
If a cell has only one number that fits, write it. Most easy puzzles are this move, repeated.
Elimination
If a number has nowhere else to go in a row, column or box, it belongs there.
Notes
Not sure? Leave candidates in the cell. They clear themselves when you place a number. Don't guess — every puzzle has one solution.
